SASSA Grant Reviews Required By Law
According to SASSA, beneficiaries are formally notified before any social grant is cancelled or allowed to lapse. This process follows the regulations governing the administration of social assistance.
In terms of Sub-regulation 32(2), a notice of suspension or cancellation must be delivered to the beneficiary or their appointed procurator through electronic communication or other appropriate channels.
Sub-regulation 32(4) also requires the agency to investigate and verify all relevant facts and circumstances before making a final decision to suspend or cancel a grant.
SASSA explained that the review process ensures that social grants are only paid to beneficiaries who still meet the qualifying criteria.

Beneficiaries who cannot visit a SASSA office themselves may appoint a procurator to complete the review process on their behalf. However, the required documentation and procedures must be followed.
