The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is calling on clients to ensure they select the province they live in when applying for benefits. By selecting the correct province, applicants ensue they will receive their benefits without any unnecessary delays.

The fund noted that some applicants who use the uFiling online portal select the incorrect province. They warned that when clients select the incorrect province, it causes delays in the assessment and payment of claims.

“The UIF is appealing to clients who apply for benefits on uFiling to always choose the province where they reside in. This is because selecting the incorrect province will result in clients having to wait longer to receive their UIF benefit payments,” explained the UIF.

Selecting the incorrect province causes delays in the assessment and payment of claims.

The UIF offers several benefits to its contributors which ensures they can access relief should they be unable to work.

These benefits include providing financial assistance when a UIF contributor becomes unemployed or passes away. If a UIF contributor passes away, their dependents will be paid UIF benefits.

Other  benefits offered by the UIF include for circumstances where a contributor takes  maternity leave, parental leave, adoption leave and illness leave.

It's important to note that the UIF calculates benefits on a sliding scale and you will not receive all the remuneration you lost.

Employers are required to submit UIF contributions on behalf of the worker by the seventh day of each month. The amount contributed monthly is equal to 2% of the remuneration received by the employee. In this case, 1% is paid by the employer and 1% is paid by the employee.
