As the new month begins, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will begin to process a new round of grant payments.

Around 46% of South Africans are beneficiaries of a social grant offered by Sassa. These grants include the Older person's grant, child support grant, disability grant and the recently introduced Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

The SRD R350 grant has no fixed payment date. Once your application for the grant has been approved, you will receive your money.

However, clients collecting their grants from a South African Post Office (SAPO) branch are only allowed to go on certain days of the month.

SAPO designs payment dates for the SRD grant by using the last 3 digits of a beneficiary's Identification Numbers (ID).

The grant benefits more than 10 million people in South Africa every month, and was originallyscheduled to come to an end in March 2022. However, the grant was extended for a further 12 months and will now end in March 2023.
