The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) expects to distribute the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to more than 10 million people monthly. However, the agency has experienced delays with the payment of money to grant beneficiaries.
Sassa has revealed that their new system is up and running and will be commencing with the payment of grants to beneficiaries. However, some beneficiaries don’t know when they can collect their R350 grant.
Check Your SASSA SRD Pay Date
Individuals can check when they can collect their money by checking their grant pay date on the SRD grant website. When applicants check their SRD grant status, they can see if their application was successful for specific months and should be able to see a pay date.
However, Sassa has asked SRD grant applicants to be patient if they do not see their play dates. This as it only means their payment has not yet been processed.
Sassa explained, “If you are approved with no pay date it means payment has not been processed as yet, however, payment will be processed soon.”
Amendments to regulations around the SRD grant mean that its beneficiaries no longer need to confirm their grant applications, no longer have to answer questions to confirm their eligibility for the grant and can have income up to the value of R624 in their bank account.
Social Development minister Lindiwe Zulu said they had to negotiate with banks to perform these means tests and verification checks. This ultimately resulted in the delay of SRD grant payments.
In the first three months under the regulations, the Department of Social Development said they faced serious challenges which resulted in a two-month delay in grant implementation.
