The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has officially commenced January 2026 social grant payments. Millions of beneficiaries across South Africa will receive their grants this month.
Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grants, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid. This is in addition to the approximately 8 million individuals who receive the temporary Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
Additionally, around 8 million individuals receive the temporary Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
Sassa Grant Payment Dates for January 2026
Consistent with Sassa’s grant payment policy, older persons will receive their grants first, followed by disability and child support grants.
