Sassa has recently come under scrutiny from the Auditor General of South Africa over its administration of the R350 grant. This comes after an investigation found that there were some beneficiaries and Sassa staff members who unduly benefited from the grant.

In February 2023, the government agency revealed that approximately 7.5 million people benefit from the Social Relief of Distress grant each month. These grant recipients are able to access their funds using their various payment methods.

The Special Relief of Distress (SRD) grant sees beneficiaries receive R350 per month. However, some individuals have submitted an SRD grant application for May but were unfortunately rejected.
