The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is once again warning clients against believing false social media messages claiming to be from the agency.

A message has been circulating on social media announcing a ‘new R700’ grant being offered by Sassa. This is a fake message and is not from Sassa.

The message also provides payment date details, eligibility requirements and the amount that will be received by applicants.

The individual who created the message also used the post format of other Sassa social media posts. This makes it difficult to distinguish it from official social media posts from Sassa.

Sassa said, ‘Please note that the below advert is FAKE and does not come from SASSA. No additional grant type is offered apart from the ones announced by SASSA’.

Sassa offers several other grants. Information about these grants can be found on their website.

Around 27.8 million South Africans are social grant recipients. This is approximately 46% of the country’s population.
