The importance of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant cannot be understated after more than 14 million people applied for the grant during December 2021.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) revealed that more than 10 million people were approved for their SRD grant in December. However, more than 3 million individuals who applied for the grant had their applications rejected.

One of the messages received by those applicants who have been rejected is ‘Existing Sassa Grant’.

This means that the applicant is currently receiving another Sassa grant. The only other grant that SRD grant recipients can receive is a child support grant.

If you believe that Sassa has unfairly rejected their SRD grant application, you can apply for reconsideration via Sassa’s SRD website.

Here’s What You Should Do About 'Existing Sassa Grant’ SRD Status

Visit the SRD Website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za

Step 1: Find the 'Application for Reconsideration' tab.

Step 2: Click on where it says ‘click here to apply for reconsideration’.

Step 3: You will be asked to provide your ID number and Mobile number.

Step 4: Follow the prompts to complete the reconsideration of your payment.

It's important to note that the appeal must be lodged on the Sassa website within 30 days of when you received a rejection status. You must also submit an appeal for every rejected month.

You can also call Sassa’s toll free number 0800 60 10 11 for any grant related enquiries. You can also visit their website @ https://www.sassa.gov.za/
