The Social Assistance Act of 2004 and regulations provides the legal framework for the administration of seven social grants, targeting categories of people who are vulnerable to poverty and in need of state support.
These grants are usually administered in the first week of every month. As it is the festive season, there are a number of holidays that are celebrated during this time.
However, social grant funds for the month of December 2022 will continue to be paid out to beneficiaries except on weekends and public holidays.
As the first day of the new year will fall on a Sunday, the following day (2 January 2023) will be observed as a public holiday.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will then commence with grant payments on 3 January 2023 and this is the social grant payment schedule that the Agency has released for the first quarter of 2023:

According to the national government agency, there is no set payment date for SRD grant payments and recipients of the grant will be notified of their grant payment dates via text message.
Alternatively, beneficiaries may check their SRD grant payment date and grant status on the official SRD grant website.
