New regulations published by the government could deem thousands of individuals unworthy of receiving the R350 grant, a crucial government government support mechanism.


The last few weeks have been extremely difficult for millions of South Africans as floods ravaged parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, while fires in the Western Cape burned down hundreds of homes.

 


It was recently revealed that around 46% of South Africans are recipients of a social grant provided by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).


Massive floods caused by torrential rain in KwaZulu-Natal have resulted in more than 400 deaths and left countless people extremely vulnerable. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will be providing relief to citizens impacted by the floods in the province.

 


This week will see the continuation of April’s theme with public holidays resulting in the non-distribution of R350 grants at the South African Post Office (SAPO).

While more than 10 million people are approved for payment of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R350 grant, it has been revealed that hundreds of thousands have not collected their money. 


Grants from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) ensure that vulnerable members of our society receive some financial assistance from the government.  

 


More than 14 million people applied for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. However, only 10 million people are benefiting from the grant.


With millions of South Africans applying for the R350 grant, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is tasked with ensuring qualifying beneficiaries receive their payments. 


Due to the high number of R350 grant beneficiaries, different avenues have been explored to ensure that millions of people have several locations where they can collect their grants.
